ACHIEVEMENTS
A Carbon Management Plan was developed with Bouygues Energies and Services for the North Middlesex University Hospital Trust
Focus FM was engaged by Bouygues Energies and Services to develop a Carbon Management Plan for their client, the North Middlesex University Hospital (NMUH) Trust.
Focus FM reviewed the requirements for NHS Trusts as set by the NHS’ Sustainable Development Unit, and liaised with them to understand the scope and targets involved.
An intermediate target of a 25% reduction by 2018 from a 2010/11 baseline year was set for the hospital to tie in with the NHS target of a 10% reduction by 2015 and the UK Government’s national target of a 34% reduction by 2020. This amounts to a reduction in carbon emissions of over 1,500 tonnes over five years.
In order to meet the carbon reduction target, a number of projects were identified following extensive site surveys of the hospital and grounds. These projects covered eight ‘strategic themes’ such as ventilation upgrades, fabric improvements, lighting replacements, and Low Carbon technologies. The total potential carbon reduction identified was 2,600 tonnes, or 159% of the target, delivering annual savings of approximately £400,000 for an investment of around £3.9m.
